During the 27th ASEAN Summit being held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which starts today and will last until Sunday the 22nd, several roads will have to be shut to allow for various security reasons.
A Bernama report says that due to the sensitive logistical nature of having many world leaders and important delegates from the participating nations all converging on one location, guaranteeing their safety becomes a top-level concern.
During a press conference, city traffic police chief ACP Mohd Nazri Hussain listed the names of the roads involved during the Summit-related closure, naturally they are roads in close proximity to the KL Convention Centre.
They include: Jalan Binjai heading to Persiaran KLCC; Jalan Imbi to Jalan Bukit Bintang; Jalan Raja Chulan to Jalan Bukit Bintang; Jalan Kia Peng to Lorong Perak and Jalan Raja Chulan to Lorong Perak, Jalan Nagasari to Jalan Raja Chulan; Jalan Sultan Ismail to Jalan Ampang; Jalan Ampang to Jalan P.Ramlee; Jalan Ampang to Jalan Binjai; Jalan Sultan Ismail to Jalan P.Ramlee and Jalan Raja Chulan to Persiaran Raja Chulan.
On Saturday, November 21st, the roads will see closures from between 7.40am and 9am that morning and 7.15pm to 8.50pm that evening.
Should the need to travel around the Kuala Lumpur city centre be an imperative, Mohd Nazri suggested that motorists plot alternative routes through roads such as Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Stonor, Jalan Tun Razak, Lorong Lumba Kuda, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Tun Perak, and Jalan Pudu to reach their destinations. Alternatively, the Kelana Jaya line LRT is available and, to a lesser extent, the Ampang Line LRT.
"Motorists are advised to plan their journey and obey all traffic laws and instructions from the police. It is best that they avoid the roads mentioned. Parking by the roadside at these roads is strictly prohibited. Offenders will have their vehicles towed away," he added.
