KLIMS 2026: MG opens booking for ZS Hybrid+, Yaris Cross rival previewed with 465Nm of torque

As MG Malaysia gears up to expand its electrified line-up, the upcoming MG ZS Hybrid+ is shaping up to be an intriguing addition to the increasingly competitive B-segment SUV space, especially given its HEV credentials. The ZS Hybrid+ is set to be locally assembled in Malaysia, signalling the brand’s growing commitment to the local market.

Perhaps one of the biggest talking points surrounding the model is its local assembly plans. The MG ZS Hybrid+ will be produced at the EPMB assembly facility in Melaka, sharing production lines with the MG S5 EV, which could pave the way for more competitive pricing when the model officially goes on sale. As of now, though, we can only speculate on those figures.

The key headline here is the 465Nm of peak torque afforded to it by MG's Hybrid+ powertrain. The plug-less HEV system uses a 'EV-grade' traction motor to assist the 1.5L normally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine, fed by a 1.83kWh lithium ion battery for 214PS of combined output. MG claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 4.7-litres/100km.

Visually, this 2nd-generation ZS adopts MG’s latest design language, bringing a sharper and more contemporary appearance compared to its predecessor. Up front, the SUV features the brand’s distinctive “Hunter Eyes” LED headlights, giving it a more sophisticated look. The sleek lighting signature is complemented by a sculpted front fascia that helps the ZS Hybrid+ stand out in a segment crowded with familiar faces.

Around the sides, the hybrid SUV rides on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/50 profile GitiComfort 225 tyres. At the rear, LED taillights complete the modern aesthetic, ensuring the ZS Hybrid+ looks just as striking from behind as it does from the front.

Inside, MG appears to have focused heavily on technology and connectivity. Dominating the dashboard is a 12.3-inch floating infotainment display that serves as the central hub for the vehicle’s entertainment and convenience functions. Complementing it is a digital instrument cluster flanked by semi-analague gauges reminiscent of the Proton X50, giving drivers persistent access to key vehicle information.

The emphasis on technology extends beyond the cabin. Standard on the MG ZS Hybrid+ is the MG Pilot ADAS 2.5 suite, bringing a comprehensive range of advanced driver assistance features to the table.

While the final specification list for the Malaysian market has yet to be confirmed, the inclusion of the ADAS package as standard equipment suggests MG is positioning the ZS Hybrid+ as a value-packed offering that doesn’t skimp on safety. An important consideration given how much this issue hampered the momentum of the MG5’s local introduction.

Perhaps one of the biggest talking points surrounding the model is its local assembly plans. The MG ZS Hybrid+ will be produced at the EPMB assembly facility in Melaka, sharing production lines with the MG S5 EV. Local assembly not only demonstrates MG’s long-term intentions in Malaysia but could also pave the way for more competitive pricing when the model officially goes on sale.

As for personalisation, buyers will have four exterior colour choices to choose from: red, silver, black and white. Regardless of the paint finish selected, all variants will feature an all-black interior theme.

Although MG Malaysia has yet to announce the full specifications and official pricing, the wait may not be long. The company has confirmed that the ZS Hybrid+ will make its official debut very soon, with further details expected to be revealed at launch.

In the meantime, interested customers can already place a booking for the upcoming hybrid SUV with a nominal RM99 fee. Those who secure their bookings early will also benefit from an attractive early-bird package that includes a RM3,000 rebate along with three years of complimentary maintenance, adding further appeal to what already appears to be a compelling proposition.

With hybrid vehicles gaining momentum among Malaysian consumers seeking improved fuel efficiency without the need to plug in, the MG ZS Hybrid+ enters the market at an opportune time. The B-segment SUV category is one of the country’s most fiercely contested battlegrounds, but MG seems determined to carve out its own space by offering a blend of electrified performance, modern technology and generous equipment levels.

Whether the MG ZS Hybrid+ can emerge as a serious contender will ultimately depend on its final pricing and specifications. However, based on what has been revealed so far, it certainly appears to have the ingredients needed to attract buyers looking for an affordable and well-equipped hybrid SUV.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
