New 2015 Toyota Avanza Debuts In Indonesia With Dual VVT-i Engine

The new Toyota Avanza has just been launched in Indonesia. Like the recently launched new Camry, the new Avanza is more than just a customary mid-life cycle facelift as it now features a new Dual VVT-i engine, replacing the previous Avanza's VVT-i engine.

The new Dual VVT-i engine is available in both 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre petrol capacity. Output for the 1.5-litre unit is improved only slightly but fuel consumption should now be better than before.

Power is now up by 1 PS, to 104 PS, still peaking at the same 6,000 rpm. Torque remains at 136 Nm, but is now achieved 200 rpm earlier, at 4,200 rpm.

The smaller 1.3-litre unit sees slightly more improvement. From 91 PS to 96.5 PS, still peaking at the same 6,000 rpm. Torque is up by 4 Nm, to 121 Nm, also achieved 200 rpm earlier at 4,200 rpm.

From the outside, the most obvious difference for the new Avanza is its new front-end design, which now sports a different front bumper, different radiator grille, and new projector lens headlamps.

Inside, the cabin’s trimmings and dashboard have been updated with a new black tone colour, and a new blue-white colour instrument panel, which now has an ‘Eco’ indicator.

The second row’s seat folding mechanism has now been updated with a one-touch tumble feature. The middle seat on the second row now has three-point seatbelts (roof-mounted).

Toyota also claims that cabin noise insulation has been improved.

Prices start from IDR 204.2 million for the 1.3-litre Manual, reaching up to IDR 226.9 million for the 1.5-litre Automatic.

Note that items like interior cabin colour, wheels and exterior trimmings might differ from country to country.

As our Malaysian market Avanza is imported from Indonesia, we expect to see the new Avanza by year-end, latest early next year. We don't expect the new Avanza to be immediately available here as the Avanza is Toyota's biggest seller in Indonesia and the plant needs to cater to the domestic market first before ramping up production for exports.
