When Will Malaysians Get To Watch Fast And Furious 9 At The Cinemas?

Fast and Furious 9 rolls out at most international cinemas, but when will Malaysia get a chance to watch it?

Reviews of the latest Fast and Furious movie, Fast & Furious 9, has started pouring in from all over the internet. Some labelled it as a return to form for the franchise, while others commented it's the best cartoon car crash movie ever made.

While moviegoers worldwide have the opportunity to judge for themselves how John Cena, the newest villain of the Fast and Furious series, is doing at terrorising Vin Diesel and co to space and back at the cinemas, Malaysians are starting to wonder when they will get the chance to see the Fast 9 crew at the cinemas.

Well, according to Prime Minister Mahiaddin's National Recovery Plan (NRP), Malaysian's might only be able to watch the Fast and Furious movie in late October, when Phase 4 kicks in, in the cinemas at least.

Under the NRP, it is widely understood that some sort of 'normality will return in Phase 4, if daily cases stay under 500, the health system remains in good shape, and 60% of the population is fully vaccinated.

Malaysia National Recovery PlanUnder the preliminary Phase 4 plan of the NRP, all economic sectors will apparently be allowed to operate, more social activities will be allowed, interstate borders will reopen, and domestic tourism can resume with strict SOPs in place.

According to a report by FMT, the Malaysian Prime Minister said that specific and detailed SOPs for each phase would be announced at a later date by the National Security Council (MKN) and reminded Malaysians that the dates he mentioned were not etched in stone.

"This is a dynamic plan, where if we succeed in the three key indicators in any phase, the government can decide to move on to the next one." added the FMT report.

Cinema halls in Malaysia only just reopened last March after many start-stops throughout 2020 and the early months of 2021. The ticketing booths closed once again on May 12 when the Prime Minister announced that the whole of Malaysia would be placed under the Movement Control Order.

By the time the cinemas will be allowed to re-open (big if) in October, the Fast and Furious 9 movie would have probably made its way to a movie streaming service provider...

Let's just hope that the Malaysian cinema industry will re-open just in time for Top Gun 2 and the much-delayed James Bond movie, No Time To Die.
