Perodua Axia: A Compact Car Revolution Since 2014

The Perodua Axia, introduced in September 2014, emerged as a game-changer in the Malaysian automotive industry. Marketed as the country's first Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV), this A-segment five-door hatchback served as the successor to the long-serving Viva, which had been in production since 2007.

Variants & Exterior Look

The Perodua Axia is available in four variants: Standard E, Standard G, Special Edition (SE), and Advance. Notably, the SE and Advance models stand out with a more aggressive front-end design featuring a large trapezoidal grille, fog lamps, and projector headlamps, while the Standard E and G versions have a more subdued bumper design. The Axia SE/Advance models also have LED tail lamps with a clear lens cover and a spoiler, distinct from the Standard variants. All models feature 14-inch wheels with 175/65 tires, with the Standard E having steel wheels and the Standard G sporting eight-spoke alloy wheels. Perodua highlights the low rolling resistance Hankook Kinergy Ex tires for impressive fuel efficiency.

Perodua Axia Price List and Equipment

The Perodua Axia was offered in various versions back in 2014, each with unique axia car prices:-

  • Standard E (1.0 E manual): RM24,600 (solid), RM25,000 (metallic)
  • Standard G (1.0 G manual): RM29,800 (solid), RM30,200 (metallic)
  • Standard G (1.0 G automatic): RM32,800 (solid), RM33,200 (metallic)
  • Special Edition (1.0 SE manual): RM36,800 (solid), RM37,200 (metallic)
  • Special Edition (1.0 SE automatic): RM39,800 (solid), RM40,200 (metallic)
  • Advance (1.0 AV automatic): RM42,130 (solid), RM42,530 (metallic)

Standard equipment across the range includes electric power steering, power windows, an Eco Drive indicator, and an immobilizer. A unique feature in the Perodua Axia is the anti-snatch hook positioned between the front seats, allowing drivers to hang their handbags securely to deter snatch thieves. This hook has a maximum load capacity of three kilograms.

Safety Features & Interior

In terms of safety equipment, the Axia features two airbags in all variants. However, advanced safety features such as ABS with EBD and brake assist are available only in the SE and Advance variants. Unfortunately, stability control is not offered, even in higher-end versions.

Perodua claims that the Axia features several firsts in a Perodua A-segment car, including front corner parking sensors, a multi-info display, electric power steering, and a touchscreen multimedia system with steering-mounted audio controls. Other features include a reminder buzzer for headlights left on and key-in-ignition without the engine running.

Starting in January 2016, Perodua is set to introduce ABS to the Axia G version, accompanied by a perodua axia price hike of RM1,500. Up until that point, ABS was exclusively offered on the Axia SE and Advance models.

Exterior

The new 2023 Axia now comes with a sportier and modern exterior look with a hint of aggressiveness. It’s also more aerodynamic which further improves its overall fuel efficiency together with the addition of the D-CVT transmission package.

To tie it all up, all variants of the Perodua Axia are fitted with the same 14-inch rims. There are minor differences between the four variants starting with the base G variant that comes with halogen headlamps that go up to LED headlamps for the X, LED headlamps with LED DRLs for the SE, and Auto High Beam (AHB) safety feature for the range-topping AV variant.
A set of front and side skirtings with a chrome front grille is exclusively available for the SE and AV variants to further differentiate the four Axia models.

Distinguishing the Different 2014 Perodua Axia Variants

Perodua Axia 1.0 E
The base model Perodua Axia, known as the 1.0 E, is solely available with a five-speed manual transmission, lacking a perodua axia auto option. It offers the expected basics, featuring steel rims and wheel caps, but it includes body-colored bumpers and door handles.

Perodua Axia 1.0 G
The Axia 1.0 G is the next variant and is the base option for those seeking auto transmission (a four-speed torque converter unit). It also offers a five-speed manual. The G-level specification includes alloy wheels, remote control entry and alarm (the E has an old-style key), as well as reverse sensors and an audio player.

Perodua Axia 1.0 SE
The Axia 1.0 SE boasts distinct exterior features compared to the standard E and G grades. Here are the additions that the 1.0 SE model provides to the 1.0 G version.

Perodua Axia 1.0 Advance
The top-tier Perodua Axia Advance, or AV, is exclusively available with a four-speed auto transmission. Regarding exterior design, it matches the SE model.

Eight Available Exterior Colors

The Special Edition and Advance versions share the colors Midnight Blue, Glittering Silver, Ebony Black, and Ivory White, while introducing two exclusive colors, Sunflower Yellow and Lava Red.
