Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi, recently hinted that the Audi Board and its parent company, Volkswagen Group, have agreed on a strategy to transition to an all-electric lineup by expanding plug-in hybrid models. The car responsible for this was the R8 LMP. With this generational run, Audi strengthened its presence in international racing, which paved the way for the creation of a road-legal supercar, the R8.

The development of the Audi R8 began in the early 2000s, following the acquisition of Lamborghini by the Volkswagen Auto Group. To reduce the costs of developing the Lamborghini Gallardo and bring Audi closer to its German competitors, plans for Audi's first-ever mid-engined supercar were set into motion through the collaboration of Lamborghini and Audi. This culminated in the unveiling of the Le Mans Quattro concept in 2003 and, eventually, the R8 Coupe 4.2 Quattro in 2006.

A few years later, the R8 was updated with a 5.2-liter V10 engine, borrowed from the Lamborghini Gallardo, showcasing the R8 in its full glory. This trend of platform sharing with Lamborghini continued into the second generation of the R8, coinciding with the release of the Lamborghini Huracán. Geely Auto has recently nveiling its EX5 all-electric SUV in the Oceania region. The launch marks the brand's entry into the Australian and New Zealand markets, signifying a bold expansion of its international footprint.

CEO of Geely Auto Group, Jerry Gan, said that by the end of this year, Geely will reach markets including the UK, Brazil, and South Africa, adding more than 300 new sales and service outlets and bringing its international channel layout to more than 1,100.

This unique 6-wheeled Jimny was recently spotted on the Historics Auctioneers website and has since sparked a wave of interest across the internet. The owner, inspired by online renditions of the Jimny in 6x6 form, thought, "Why not?" and decided to make it a reality.

The Suzuki Jimny in question began life as a standard JDM Jimny, imported to the UK. It was then handed over to Mocho Fabrications, where the ambitious conversion began. A custom rear bed and new rear arches were crafted specifically for this project, along with a third axle sourced from another donor Jimny. Yes, that's right – two Jimnys were used to create this eye-catching 6-wheeler. Fans of Audi may also recognize the custom Nardo Grey finish, adding a touch of German luxury to this quirky off-roader.

Further upgrades include an upgraded Kenwood Apple CarPlay system, plush leather upholstery, and brand new all-terrain tires, complete with two spare wheels. However, while the third axle looks the part, it's not actually functional, which technically makes this a 6x4 Jimny rather than a true 6x6.

Stellantis Malaysia has launched a new service centre for Peugeot and Leapmotor at Subang and multi-brand showroom at Desa Park City by Allure Auto.

Honda has launched the Honda S7 EV SUV in China, with a starting price of 259,900 yuan, which is around RM159k.

The electric crossover is from the Dongfeng-Honda joint venture and was initially introduced in China under the newly formed Ye brand last year. However, the brand seems to have been dropped for some unknown reasons.

This model boasts the brand’s new design with large Y-shaped headlights and a thin LED strip. Other features of the Honda S7 include retractable door handles, five-spoke wheels, a sleek roofline, and optional side-view cameras. From the back, the Honda S7 has a large roof spoiler and vertically aligned taillights with an LED element between them.

Dimensions of the Honda S7 are 4750mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,625mm tall, which is shorter than its rival Tesla Model Y.  However, the wheelbase of the Honda S7 is longer, which is 2930mm. It also has 19-inch wheels, and the top-trim adopts 21-inch wheels.

The Honda S7 debuts with a boldly futuristic interior, featuring a 24-inch portrait-oriented display and a 9.9-inch LCD instrument cluster for a full-tech dashboard. Adding to the striking visuals is a 41.9-inch augmented reality head-up display, while heated seats and steering wheel enhance comfort. For an immersive listening experience, the Honda S7 boasts 8 standard speakers, with a 16-speaker Bose-branded setup available in the top-trim model.

Powertrain-wise, there are few options available. The rear-wheel-drive Honda S7 boasts a single electric motor in the rear axle with a peak power output of 200 kW (268 hp) and 420 Nm. It is powered by the ternary NMC battery pack with a capacity of 89.8 kWh. This model has a CLTC range of 650 km.

Meanwhile, the Honda S7's 4WD variant gets two electric motors, 350 kW with 469 hp and 770 Nm. This variant speeds up to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The battery is the same, with a capacity of 89.8 kWh. Its range reaches 620 km under CLTC conditions. This battery pack can be charged to 80 percent in 36 minutes.

Boasting an impressive 40,000 Nm/degree torsional rigidity, the Honda S7 body is designed with durability and strength in mind. The vehicle also prioritizes the safety of its passengers with a total of 11 airbags, ensuring that all occupants are well-protected in case of unexpected situations. Its chassis features the continuous damping control system, which offers superior stability and handling, complemented by the double wishbone independent suspension in the front and the five-link independent suspension at the rear axle.

The Honda S7 entered China in two trim levels. Its entry-level RWD version is priced at 259,900 yuan (RM159k). The top-trim 4WD model costs 309,900 yuan (RM190k).

Not to forget. Soon, Honda will also launch the electric sibling of the S7 called Honda P7. The GAC-Honda joint venture will manufacture this model.

So in Malaysia, which one will we get to see first? It’s the matter of time to find out.

The BYD Seal has won the title of “Japan EV of the Year 2024”, making it the second consecutive year that BYD has taken home this award. The BYD Dolphin claimed the honour in 2023 along with the BYD Atto 3 finishing third in last year's rankings.

Fifteen electric vehicles released in Japan between November 2023 and October 2024 were eligible for the award. To identify “attractive electric vehicles that society desires,” the voting process included both public votes from readers and votes from writers at the EVsmart blog, totalling 348 valid votes.

The BYD Seal topped the results with 195 points. The Honda N-VAN e:, a small Kei EV, finished second with 182 points, while the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N came third with 176 points.

The Tesla Model 3 Performance finished in fourth place with 157 points, just 19 points behind the IONIQ 5 N and 38 points behind the Seal.

When asked about why they voted for the Seal, voters highlighted its unique design, long range, and impressive performance (particularly the AWD model). They also praised the Seal for offering excellent value for money, delivering a premium driving experience with great EV performance.

Other electric vehicles that received votes included the Mitsubishi Minicab EV, Volvo EX30, Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology, Mini Cooper E/SE, Nissan Ariya Nismo, Fiat 600e, Jeep Avenger, Lexus RZ300e, BMW iX1, Audi SQ8 Sportback e-tron, and Lotus Emeya.

The Japan EV of the Year awards were launched in 2022 by Enechange and the EVsmart blog to recognise exceptional vehicles and promote EV adoption in Japan. The first award in 2022 went to the Nissan Sakura, followed by the BYD Dolphin in 2023, and now the BYD Seal in 2024.
