2018 (F90) BMW M5 Teased – Malaysian Launch Soon

BMW Malaysia has teased the all-new (F90) BMW M5 on their Facebook page, confirming a local introduction in the near future.

The short 14-second video, cycles through all the colour finishes of the M5, while giving viewers a 360-degree look at the vehicle. The Facebook post is also interactive – asking viewers to screenshot their colour of choice and share it in the comments section.

The M5 is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 600 hp and 750 Nm of torque between 1,800 and 5,600 rpm.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic that sends power to all four wheels through the M xDrive all-wheel drive system. In keeping with the M5’s trademark rear wheel drive ethos, the xDrive system can also be configured to deliver power to just the rear wheels.

Performance is “brisk”, to say the least, with a 0–100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 11.1 seconds, and a top speed of 305 km/h when specified with the M Driver’s Package.

The M5’s closest competitor, the 2017 (W213) Mercedes-AMG E63S 4Matic+, is priced from RM998,888. The E63S features a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers a whopping 612 hp at 5,750 rpm and torque of 850 Nm between 2,500 to 4,500 rpm.

Power is sent to all four wheels through the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, which allows for fully-variable torque distribution between front and rear axles. Like the M5,  the E63S’ “Drift mode”, which is activated in the car’s "Race" drive program will isolate power to the rear wheels alone.

Separately, the (F90) BMW M5 officially went on sale, for the first time in Thailand, priced at THB13.339 million. The M5 is the third "M" car to be offered officially, after the M2 and M4 models.
