2025 BYD Atto 2 launched at just RM100,000 for sole variant - 170PS/290Nm city SUV with 350km WLTP range

The BYD Atto 2 has made its Malaysian debut here in Kuala Lumpur following its first regional appearance at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show and just last week at Setia City Convention Centre. Priced at a very rounded RM100,000, it could become one of the brand’s most accessible and well-positioned electric offerings in Malaysia.

Known as the Yuan Up in China, the Atto 2 made its global debut in February 2024 and is designed to slot neatly between the BYD Dolphin (which is probably being phased out) and Atto 3 in Malaysia.

Measuring 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, 1,675 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm, the Atto 2 is sized closely to popular petrol-powered crossovers like the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V. That makes it a compact SUV that’s easy to navigate in urban environments while still offering respectable interior space.

As expected, the Atto 2 emerged priced between the Dolphin (RM100,700 to RM125,600) - which, again, we expect to be phased out given how much the newer Atto 2 overlaps it - and the Atto 3 (RM123,800).

In China, the Atto 2 comes with either a 32-kWh or 45.12-kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The base version is equipped with a 95 PS front motor offering 301 km of range (CLTC), while the larger battery supports up to 401 km of range. A higher output version with the same 45.12-kWh battery delivers 177 PS and 290 Nm of torque, matching the 401 km CLTC figure.

However, it’s the higher-powered variant is what global markets like here in Malaysia and Australia are receiving, paired with the larger 51.1-kWh battery that provides around 350 km of WLTP-rated range, or 410km on the NEDC spec, which is what BYD Malaysia are advertising. It’s paired to a 177PS/290Nm electric motor driving the front wheels.

Charging capabilities include 11-kW AC charging and DC fast charging up to 65 kW, going from 10% to 80% in approximately 37 minutes using a compatible DC charger, while a full AC charge takes approximately 5.5 hours.

The Atto 2’s equipment list includes LED lighting, NFC-based smartphone unlocking via the side mirror, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Interior appointments are expected to feature an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a rotating infotainment touchscreen, offered in either a 10.1-inch or 12.8-inch format depending on the trim level. Some of these features are optional in China, including the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), but come as standard fitment in Malaysia.

With its positioning, modern features, and competitive pricing, the Atto 2 could prove to be a strong contender in Malaysia’s growing EV segment, especially for those seeking an urban-friendly electric SUV that bridges the gap between the Dolphin and Atto 3. We’ve no doubt it’ll be more popular than the former.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
