The striking two-door grand tourer pairs muscular bi-turbo V8 power with cutting-edge aerodynamics and technology, priced from RM1,882,888 (on-the-road without insurance). Also unveiled at the same event was the RM2.17 million Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance, a plug-in hybrid roadster with over 800 PS and electrified muscle – ideal for those seeking open-top thrills with next-generation hybrid technology. The GT63 Coupe complements the existing AMG GT 63 S E Performance (X290) 4-Door in the local range. While it may lack the hybrid punch of its more expensive sibling, it stands as a purist’s choice for those who crave performance in a sleek, traditional coupe form. Under its sculpted bonnet sits a the AMG M177 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, handcrafted to deliver 585 PS and 800 Nm of torque. Paired with an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission featuring a wet multi-disc start-off clutch, power is seamlessly channeled through the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. This setup allows the GT63 Coupe to rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 315 km/h. In contrast, the heavier (due to its open top design) convertible SL 63 takes 3.6 seconds to dispatch the century sprint, giving this hardtop a definitive edge in acceleration, though it can't match the SL 63 S E Performance's hypercar-like 2.9 second run. Despite the more svelte dimensions over its predecessor, it does seems to give of a certain Porsche vibe to some, especially from the rear, its overall appearance is unmistakably AMG, featuring Digital Light headlamps, an active rear spoiler, EQ-style recessed door handles, and aesthetic touches from the AMG Night Package and AMG Exterior Carbon Package. It rolls on bold 21-inch cross-spoke forged alloy wheels that complete its functionally aggressive look. Under the skin, significant changes have been made compared to the first-generation GT (C190), which was based on a transaxle layout derived from the limited-run SLS AMG. The new GT63 Coupe adopts the Modular Sports Architecture (MSA) platform that’s also shared with the latest SL. Notably, it’s passenger cell is now larger, offering 2+2 seating and enough boot space for golf bags, responding directly to customer feedback for more practicality. Aerodynamic enhancements go beyond aesthetics. The Airpanel system, comprising two active air control components, adjusts airflow based on driving conditions. Vertical slats behind the lower front intake and horizontal louvres behind the upper intake help reduce drag at lower speeds and open at higher speeds (above 180 km/h) to cool critical components. Additionally, a patent-protected active carbon element hidden beneath the engine lowers automatically by 40 mm at 80 km/h, improving handling and high-speed stability. Chassis enhancements include AMG Active Ride Control with active anti-roll stabilisation, rear-axle steering, and a locking rear differential, all working together to deliver both comfort and razor-sharp handling. Inside, as you might expect given their shared DNA, the GT63 Coupe shares quite a few design elements with the SL, offering some rear seats big enough to be usable in a pinch, an 11.9-inch central touchscreen, and a head-up display. The cabin also features AMG Performance seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a digital instrument cluster with AMG-specific graphics, including menus for AMG Performance and AMG Track Pace. Drive modes include Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, and Individual, allowing drivers to tailor the car’s character to road or track conditions. As with other AMG models, the GT63 Coupe comes with a 4-year, unlimited mileage warranty, offering some added peace of mind alongside the standard blistering performance.
