Volkswagen’s legendary hot hatch, the Golf GTI, has just received a uniquely Malaysian makeover. Say hello to the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI Sepang Edition, a special model that celebrates local motorsport pride while staying true to the GTI’s renowned performance pedigree. Priced at RM264,012 on-the-road with the Volkswagen Assurance Package, it’s the first Volkswagen in Malaysia to proudly wear the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) badge. Which, is a good thing, right?

Built upon the locally assembled Mk8 Golf GTI, the Sepang Edition marks Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia’s first-ever collaboration for a special edition model. Previous to this, we might recall the various ‘Wolfsburg Editions’ in VPCM’s catalogue. It’s a symbolic partnership between the brand that popularised the hot hatch, and Malaysia’s home of motorsport.

Visually, the Sepang Edition adds exclusive styling touches that set it apart from the regular GTI. You’ll find a Sepang Edition emblem on the rear and another on the B-pillar finished in a slick UV gloss.

Completing the look are 18-inch “Richmond” alloy wheels finished in matte gunmetal grey, side decals, and blacked-out exterior details including the roof, mirror caps, front spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser. Colour options are limited to just two: Atlantic Blue and King’s Red.

Step inside, and you’ll find subtle enhancements that elevate the experience. The Sepang Edition comes with a Universal Traffic Recorder 2.0 dashcam system (front and rear) featuring Sony Starvis night-vision sensors, an official Volkswagen window tint, and even a key holder with a certificate of authenticity, just in case people remain in doubt.

Under the bonnet, things are rather familiar. Power comes from the EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, churning out 245 PS and 370 Nm of torque. That grunt is channelled to the front wheels via Volkswagen’s crisp seven-speed wet dual-clutch DSG transmission and aided by the XDS electronic differential lock and the Dynamic Chassis Control adaptive dampers.

Tech and comfort haven’t been overlooked either. Drivers get a 10-inch Discover Media infotainment display with Hello Volkswagen voice control, a 10-inch digital driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and a premium nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
