The Eclipse Cross is developed from the ground up as a global strategic model, which will be delivered first in Europe, starting September of this year followed by Japan, North America, Australia and other regions. The Eclipse Cross all-new compact SUV coupe will join MMC's global line-up of crossover SUVs, namely the ASX compact SUV and the Outlander and Outlander PHEV mid-size SUVs.The name (Eclipse) is derived from Mitsubishi’s coupe model of the early 90s, sold in some markets like North America while 'Cross' is short for crossover. The Eclipse Cross is Mitsubishi’s latest take on a crossover, combining sharp coupe looks, updated connectivity features and practical SUV mobility. The Eclipse Cross measures 4405mm in length, 1805 mm in height and 1685mm in width, with a wheelbase on 2670mm. In terms of a comparison, the Eclipse Cross is 110mm longer, 35mm higher and 70mm wider than the Mitsubishi ASX compact SUV. The wheelbases of the Eclipse Cross and ASX are identical. Mitsubishi have announced a choice of two powerplants for the Eclipse Cross, a 1.5L direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine, mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and 2.2L turbo diesel paired with an eight-speed automatic.Power will be sent to all four wheel through an electronically controlled 4WD system, that feeds the optimum amount of torque to the rear wheels as required by the driving situation and surface conditions. MMC's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) integrated vehicle dynamics control system incorporates brake-activated, Active Yaw Control (AYC).The addition of a 3-point strut tower brace at the front, and the strategic use of structural bonding at the rear, in particular, have increased body rigidity of the Eclipse Cross. A Touchpad Controller, situated in the centre console combines with a Heads Up Display allow the driver to handle and interpret different types of information more easily.
