Honda Malaysia Takata Airbag Inflator Replacement At 84% Completion Rate, Owners Urged To Replace Immediately

Honda Malaysia is urging owners of affected Honda models to replace the faulty Takata airbag inflators as soon as possible for their own safety.

As of 20th September, Honda Malaysia has replaced more than 236,800 units of the Takata driver front airbag inflator, translating to a 90% completion rate. As for the Takata driver and passenger front airbag inflator, Honda Malaysia has replaced 496,400 units, which translates to an 84% completion rate.

Honda Malaysia urges affected Honda owners who have yet to undergo the replacement program to immediately replace the front airbag inflators as they could rupture and send shrapnel into the cabin, causing injuries or death to the driver and passenger.

Stock availability for both passenger and driver airbag inflator is at 100% for all models, and replacement of the airbag inflators are free of charge. Any cost related to the Takata airbag inflator replacement are borne by Honda Malaysia.

Customers can take their Honda vehicle to 94 Honda authorized service centres nationwide or dedicated mobile hubs at selected shopping malls. Additionally, customers also can take their Honda vehicles to selected Petronas stations for the replacement activity. Customers are recommended to set an appointment with Honda authorized service centres for their airbag inflator replacements. Those who wish to visit the mobile hubs or Petronas stations do not need to set an appointment.

The company also has a mobile team from Honda authorized dealers that operated in selected areas, making it even easier for customers to get their faulty airbag inflators replaced.

For owners of parallel imported Honda vehicles, owners are advised to contact authorized Honda dealers to check whether their vehicles are affected. Just like the official models sold by Honda Malaysia, the company will bear the cost of the airbag inflator replacement costs.

All current selling Honda models do not use the same type of Takata airbag inflators as models affected by the recall.
