Biforst Logistics Sdn Bhd, as well as Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Commercial Vehicles yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the former’s commitment to being the first company in Malaysia to purchase an electric-powered truck – the Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter to be exact.
Yet to be launched here in Malaysia, the Fuso eCanter is powered by a package of three to five lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 13.8kWh each. Capable of securing at least 100km with a single charge, the truck comes with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 7.5 tonnes.
It also comes with a few interesting features like a digital key and meter console, a digital control panel in the center console, LED lights, digital air cond control, as well as GPS navigation.
The eCanter aside, Biforst also officially took delivery of its 300th Fuso truck yesterday – an FE85PG model.
With the acquisition of the new Fuso, Biforst’s fleet now comprises 530 trucks in total, which the company aims to increase to 700 units by 2018.
Having allocated RM10 million to invest in electric trucks in the near future, Hamie Appala, the group managing director of Biforst Holdings Sdn Bhd said that the company also plans to have autonomous trucks in its fleet by the year 2020.
