Mitsubishi Xforce strong demand shows Malaysians still favour simple and reliable cars

Strong early demand for the Mitsubishi Xforce is showing that many Malaysian buyers still prioritise simplicity, reliability and low running costs over outright performance or high-tech features.

This trend has prompted Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) to raise its sales expectations for the model.

When bookings opened on 5 February 2026, the company initially targeted 1,000 units per month. That figure was quickly exceeded, with dealers securing over 1,000 bookings within the first week. While not all orders translate into sales, demand has remained steady since.

By March, bookings continued to climb, with some dealers reporting hundreds of approved loan applications. Ahead of its official launch, MMM revised its target to 2,000 units per month.

The company has since announced more than 2,600 bookings, a figure that already accounts for typical cancellations, suggesting actual interest may be even higher.

On paper, the Xforce’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 105 PS may seem modest compared to turbocharged rivals. However, its appeal lies in its straightforward approach to daily driving.

The model offers a practical cabin, user-friendly controls, good fuel efficiency and a comfortable, predictable driving experience. Its chassis tuning delivers a composed drive without overly sensitive inputs or intrusive driver assistance systems.

While not performance-focused, the Xforce provides adequate power for everyday use, which aligns well with what many buyers are looking for.

Mitsubishi’s long-standing reputation for reliability and low maintenance costs also plays a key role. According to MMM, the Xforce has among the lowest upkeep costs in its segment.

In Malaysia, the Xforce is offered in two variants, priced at RM109,980 for the 1.5L Urban and RM119,980 for the 1.5L Ultimate. Read more on our first drive review here.
