Peugeot Sport Concept 508 Unveiled – Twin-Engined PHEV: 400 bhp

Peugeot Sport (the company’s high-performance and motorsport division) has unveiled a concept based on its D-Segment 508 sedan that is relatively bonkers but actually serves as a precursor to electrified, high-performance vehicles in the near future.

Slated to debut at the upcoming 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the lengthily named Concept 508 (Peugeot Sport Engineered) is a derivative of the Peugeot 508 Plug-In Hybrid sedan but crucially adds another engine in the rear.

At the front is a Puretech 200 engine which works in concert with a 110 bhp electric motor to drive the front wheels, while another 200 bhp motor drives the rear wheels, effectively making the Concept 508 and all-wheel drive vehicle.

Little else is known about the drivetrain and transmission but Peugeot claims a combined power output of 400 bhp and maximum torque of 500 Nm. Acceleration is claimed to be superb, with a 4.3 second 0-100 km/h sprint time, all the way to a top speed of 250 km/h.

The 11.8 kWh battery reportedly allows for an electric range of up to 50km (WLTP-cycle).

The Concept 508 receives uprated brakes in the form of 380 mm front discs with four-piston calipers. The front and rear track have been widened by 24 mm and 12 mm respectively, and the ride height has been lowered courtesy of some suspension tweaks.

Visually, the Concept 508 receives a redesigned front bumper with larger cooling ducts with specially designed elements to improve aerodynamics and airflow over the front section of the car. At the rear, the rear spoiler has been deleted and a diffuser completes the rear end. Along the flanks, new 20" alloy wheel rims have been designed to redirect airflow for better brake cooling.

The Concept 508 is finished off in the "Selenium Grey" body colour, which changes according to the light, thanks to the fine opalescent particles contained in the paint.
