The move comes under the recently launched Matching Grant Programme for the Replacement of Old Vehicles, under which eligible recipients can receive a government matching grant of up to RM2,000 to complement the incentive provided by Proton. According to the automaker, buyers of the Saga and e.Mas 5 can receive up to RM1,000, while customers purchasing the X50, X70, or e.Mas 7 are entitled to RM2,000 in incentives. When combined with the government grant, total benefits can reach RM2,000 for the smaller models and up to RM4,000 for the larger ones. The Malaysian government’s Matching Grant Programme, part of Budget 2026, allocates a total of RM10 million to support around 5,000 vehicle owners in replacing cars more than 20 years old with safer, greener, and more efficient vehicles. “The incentive offered by Proton is an extension of the Proton Xchange Programme launched in May 2025. Offering up to RM2,000 in over trade for customers who scrapped their old vehicles for a new Proton model, 4,344 transactions were made resulting in approximately RM8.68 million being given out towards the purchase of a new car by the end of 2025,” said Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer, Proton.
