ROI for Volvo ES90 open as launch nears for CKD flagship EV sedan - 651km range, 333PS RWD

Volvo is continuing its electric push in Malaysia, and this time it’s the sleek ES90 that’s stepping into the spotlight with registration of interest (ROI) for the all-electric sedan/liftback is now open locally, ahead of its anticipated early-2026 launch.

While Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) is keeping details on pricing close to its chest alongside and exact timing of said launch, early adopters are up for a slightly sweeter deal with VCM announcing a 2% early bird incentive for the first 100 bookings secured between now and March 31, 2026.

One key detail already confirmed is that the ES90 will be locally assembled (CKD) from day one, marking a different approach from their other fully electric flagship, the EX90 SUV, which debuted here as a fully imported (CBU) model.

Like its SUV 90-series counterpart, the ES90 is underpinned by Volvo’s latest SPA2 platform, but the sedan comes out swinging with an 800-volt electrical architecture as standard whereas the EX90 only received its 800V upgrade post-launch in late 2024.

That high-voltage setup brings serious charging credentials as the ES90 supports DC fast charging of up to 350 kW, allowing a 10–80% recharge in about 22 minutes provided you find an adequately beefy charger. Do that, and a quick charge of just 10 minutes could yield up to 300 km of driving range according to Volvo.

Performance figures disseminated so far suggest the Single Motor variant will headline the local lineup, at least initially. In this guise, output stands at 333 PS (245 kW) and 480 Nm, juiced by a 92-kWh NMC battery capable of delivering impressive range of up to 651 km on the WLTP scale. Buyers can also expect Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance variants further down the line, likely to also be locally assembled.

Tech-wise, the ES90 breaks new ground as the first Volvo to feature the Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processor, forming the backbone of the brand’s Superset tech stack that oversees AI functions, safety systems, sensors and battery management.

For reference, the ES90 has been on sale in Thailand since October last year, priced at 2.99 million baht (around RM386k) for the Ultra Single Motor. Unlike Malaysia’s CKD model, Thai-market cars are imported from China.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
