Roslan Abdullah named Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia

GWM Malaysia has appointed Roslan Abdullah as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), with immediate effect. The move follows Roslan’s recent departure from Proton, where he served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer until earlier this month.

Roslan brings with him nearly 30 years of experience in the automotive sector, having held key leadership roles across several prominent companies. He joined Proton on June 1, 2020, initially serving as Vice President of Sales and Marketing and CEO of Proton Edar. In January 2022, he was promoted to Deputy CEO. Before his time at Proton, Roslan was General Manager at DRB-Hicom from June 2019 to June 2024.

His earlier career also includes a significant tenure at Honda Malaysia, where he worked from December 2012 to June 2019. During his time there, he held several roles, eventually becoming President and COO. Over the years, Roslan has accumulated broad expertise spanning finance, operations, and sales—skills that will now be put to use in steering GWM Malaysia forward.

In his new role at GWM Malaysia, Roslan is tasked with overseeing the company’s operations, including sales, marketing, aftersales, and the expansion of its dealer network. His leadership is expected to be central to the company’s plans for growth and its continued push into Malaysia’s competitive automotive landscape.

"We are delighted to welcome Roslan Abdullah to the GWM Malaysia family. His deep understanding of the automotive landscape in Malaysia, coupled with his leadership acumen, will be instrumental in strengthening our operations and enhancing our customer-centric approach," said Mike Cui, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia. "Roslan's appointment marks a significant milestone in our journey to becoming a leading SUV and new energy vehicle brand in Malaysia.”

Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Roslan said, “I am honoured to join GWM Malaysia at such an exciting time in its journey. The brand has made remarkable strides in introducing advanced and high-tech vehicles to the Malaysian market. I look forward to working with the team to build on this momentum, deepen customer trust, and contribute to GWM’s long-term success in Malaysia.”

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
