All-New 2026 Mazda BT-50 arrives in Malaysia for RM138k— blends toughness, refinement, and versatility

Bermaz Motor has officially launched the all-New Mazda BT-50 in Malaysia, signalling a doubling down for Mazda’s pickup range. On the surface, the new BT-50 wears Mazda’s Kodo: Soul of Motion design language with striking confidence, sporting minor visual updates from previous model year iterations, though it still does bear a striking resemblance to the current generation Isuzu D-Max that it’s based on.

Fully imported (CBU) from Thailand, the All-New Mazda BT-50 is priced from RM138,000, available in Concrete Gray Mica, Vermillion Latosol Mica, True Black Mica, Geode White Pearl, and Sailing Blue Mica. It’s backed by a 5-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty or 100,000 km, offering peace of mind to match its newfound polish and capability.

On the styling front, bold signature wing grille and sharp LED headlights lend it a strong, assertive face, while a redesigned bumper and sculpted fenders enhance its muscular stance. Around the back, the tailgate and LED combination lamps emphasise width and stability, with fine chrome detailing underscoring Mazda’s meticulous attention to design.

Step inside, and the BT-50 continues to surprise with a more upmarket cabin experience over the more usual utilitarian fare. Mazda’s Jinba-Ittai principle — the sense of oneness between driver and machine — shines through in the cabin layout.

The dashboard adopts a clean, symmetrical form with soft-touch materials and a premium finish, blending utility with refinement. The seats have been redesigned for improved comfort and support, while enhanced insulation helps keep the cabin quiet and composed, even on rough terrain.

Technology takes a noticeable step up too. The BT-50 now features a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, USB-C ports, dual-zone climate control, and rear air vents.

Under the bonnet lies a 3.0L turbodiesel engine, again borrowing from the Isuzu stable, producing 188hp and 450Nm of robust torque and smooth power delivery through a 6-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system. The addition of Rough Terrain Mode — a new off-road assist feature — further enhances grip and control on slippery or uneven ground, working seamlessly with 4H/4L and 2H drive modes.

Safety, as expected, is comprehensive. The BT-50 packs eight airbags, ESC, TCS, Hill Descent Control, and Mazda’s full i-Activsense suite, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Auto Emergency Braking.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
