Geneva 2018: All-New Toyota Auris Introduced, Available With New Dynamic Force Powertrain

Toyota has unveiled the all-new Auris at the ongoing 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. The Toyota Auris is also known as the Corolla Hatchback in some markets.

The company has not released full details of its new C-segment hatchback, though Toyota did mention that the all-new Auris rides on the company’s new TNGA platform. Unlike the Toyota C-HR’s double wishbone rear suspension set up, the all-new Auris gets multi-link rear suspension. Additionally, by utilizing high strength steel as reinforcement in key areas, the all-new Auris boasts a more rigid body shell that improves handling and stability.

Continuing on the platform, the all-new Auris is now 40 mm longer than the model it replaces, all of which goes to the longer wheelbase, now coming in at 2,640 mm. Height of the new model has been reduced by 25 mm, bringing the new Auris’ height to 1,435 mm. The all-new Auris is now 1,790 mm wide, 30 mm more than before.

Visually, the all-new Toyota Auris gets new LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs. The LED trend continues to the front foglights and rear lamp cluster. Toyota’s Keen Look design language is utilized here, featuring a flat clamshell design front bonnet and a slim upper grille.

Under the hood, the all-new Toyota Auris can be had with two hybrid powertrains or one regular petrol engine. The first engine of the lineup is a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, followed by a 1.8-litre hybrid that does 122 hp, both of which are also shared with the Toyota C-HR.

The third engine is a 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain from Toyota’s new Dynamic Force line of powertrains. According to Toyota, this new hybrid engine is good for 180 hp and is paired to steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experience.

Unlike the model it replaces, the all-new Auris will not be fitted with diesel powertrains, as Toyota will be moving away from diesel-powered models moving forward.

Production of the all-new Toyota Auris will commence at Toyota’s Burnaston plant in the United Kingdom.

Closer to home, the debut of the all-new Auris was supposed to preview the next generation Corolla Altis’ interior, but Toyota has yet to release photos of the new Auris’ interior.
