Hyundai Kona Meets COMOS – The EV Solution We Need?

If you’re on the fence about owning an electric vehicle, you can rent one daily, weekly, monthly – or outright lease a Hyundai Kona with COMOS.

If you’re looking to drive an electric car on the daily in Malaysia, you don’t exactly have many options. You could buy a Nissan LEAF outright – which is a fantastic option if your place of dwelling allows for it. But other than that, you’re pretty much limited to leasing from various companies – COMOS being one of them.

COMOS is known for bringing electric car rental and leasing to Malaysians, with the Renault Twizy and Renault Zoe being the options they are most known for. Rental rates go from daily to weekly to monthly, but it seems now they’re stepping up with the addition of a much larger electric offering – the Hyundai Kona SUV.

While you could buy the Hyundai Kona directly from the distributor, COMOS is offering it as part of a fleet leasing program that in turn affords you the benefits of… well… leasing. It’s pretty much hassle free “ownership”, with annual road tax and insurance renewal, scheduled service and maintenance, as well as wear and tear parts replacement covered as part of your lease.

Many people can’t see the value in a leasing program, but it’s really cutting out a lot of the trouble that comes with a hire purchase agreement and disposal of a car after you look to trade up or out. There is an extra benefit in that with a leasing program, you don’t really need to worry about how you’re going to take care of this asset – since it’s in COMOS’ best interest to keep it in the best shape possible.

And that’s kind of the reason why we think this may be the EV solution that people need. After all, when you’re moving to next-generation technology, it’s probably time we rethink the way we purchase and consume vehicles as well. Leasing is very common in other parts of the world where many people will lease a car for a couple of years and trade up to a newer model at the end of the lease – they may lose a little compared to a hire-purchase agreement, but the process is far smoother.

COMOS is offering the Hyundai Kona in either the Standard or High Spec, with some pretty significant differences in equipment. The Standard comes with the lower 39.2 kWh battery, 136 PS and 395 Nm of torque as its powertrain, while the high spec goes for a more potent 64 kWh battery, 204 PS, and the same 395 Nm of torque. The equipment added with the High Spec is a TPMS, blind-spot collision warning system, rear cross traffic collision avoidance assist, powered front seats, a heads up display, a wireless phone charger, and a rain sensor.

The pricing for the Standard model goes for RM 4,300 a month, while you only need to top up an extra RM 600 for the High Spec. Both lease agreements are 60 months long, with the option to purchase the vehicle at the end of tenure, and both include the installation of the wall-box charger at your home as part of the agreement.
