New Geely Binyue Announced In China, Semi-Autonomous Driving In The Pipeline

After its earlier tease, Geely has announced the Binyue compact crossover in China. The Binyue is the second model to ride on the company’s BMA platform co-developed with Volvo.

Coming in with a length of 4,330 mm, width of 1,800 mm and a height of 1,609 mm, the all-new Binyue will be competing against the Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR, Haval H2, Ford EcoSport, and Hyundai Encino (Kona) in China.

Up front, the all-new compact crossover features LED daytime running lights and projector headlights. The Binyue Sport ups the ante with full LED treatment on the front-end, including LED headlights, turn signals, DRLs, and front fog lights.

The rear-end features LED tail lights and a subtle rear spoiler. At each ends of the rear bumper are rather large set of faux exhaust tips, with the Binyue Sport receiving quad muffler tips.

Moving inside, a large 10.25-inch floating-type touchscreen infotainment system can be found, with a built-in digital video recorder too. The infotainment system can also display a 360 degree view of the Binyue, easing parking maneuvers.

Power is derived from a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that does 177 hp and 255 Nm, sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. As mentioned earlier, the Geely Binyue is capable of completing the century sprint in just 7.9 seconds.

Additionally, future variants of the Binyue is expected to feature Level 2 autonomous driving, capable of accelerating, braking, and steering when operating under in certain specific conditions. The driver is still required to supervise the vehicle's operation.

Prices of the new model is expected to be announced later.
