PDRM urging the public to stop using Waze to share roadblock locations

Kuala Lumpur Police are urging the public not to share their location on Waze as it helps offenders get away with breaking the law.

Road users who want to evade police roadblocks tend to use the navigation app Waze to find out where they are set up, as the app can notify the presence of police officers or roadblocks on its map.

This is exactly the reason why the Kuala Lumpur Police are urging road users to stop sharing their locations, as it can interfere with enforcement against drivers who are breaking the law.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said, although there is a view that the partnership makes drivers more careful, it becomes an 'obstacle' in taking action against drivers who are breaking the law.

"People think that by displaying the presence of the police, drivers will be more inclined to drive carefully and always comply with the established rules."

"Although it is seen as beneficial to drivers, at the same time, it hinders enforcement against drivers who are breaking the law, especially those who drive under the influence of alcohol and other traffic offences," he said.

He also said that it has gone viral that we are requesting road users to cooperate and not to share our location about the SJR (sekatan jalan raya) held or the presence of the police in the application.

According to him, the advice has caused various reactions in the community.

He said that they are requesting this for the safety of other road users, as they should be aware of the dangers they face due to the negligence of drivers who drive drunk, break traffic lights, drive against the flow and others.
