RM605m Of AES Summonses Waived - Anthony Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that a total of 4.03 million AES summonses valued at RM605 million have been cancelled.

According to Loke, summonses issued from 2012 till 31st August this year have been written off. This came after the announced the government’s decision to write off the outstanding AES summonses.

In addition to that, Loke also mentioned that the government would not be receiving any revenue from the summonses as the previous government did a lopsided agreement with two concessionaries that operates the AES system.

From 1st September to 8th November, a total of 60,444 AES summonses were issued to speeding drivers, but only 1,711 have settled the summonses. Loke also said that 4,575 summonses were issued for drivers running the red light in the same period, but only 167 summonses were paid.

“To date, 1,190 cases have been brought to courts in Kedah, Perak and Penang but only three offenders turned up,” he said.

Loke also told reporters that JPJ will take stern action against those who refuse to pay the summonses within 60 days by taking them to court. If they are a no-show, arrest warrants will be issued.
