After introducing the new second generation Volvo XC90 and more recently the new XC60, the company has rolled out its third and most compact SUV, the all-new XC40.
Unlike the Volvo XC90 and XC60 that's based on the Volvo SPA platform, the new XC40 is based on the CMA platform, that was co-developed with Geely.
At launch, the Volvo XC40 will be available with the company's diesel D4 or petrol T5 Drive-E engines. Volvo added that more powetrain options will be added at a later date, which includes a hybrid version and a pure electric XC40. Additionally, the new Volvo XC40 will be first in line to receive the new three-cylinder engine.
The interior of the Volvo XC40 is heavily inspired by the XC90 and XC60, including the minimalist-looking dashboard. Volvo says that the XC40 features a number of storage space, including in the doors and under the seats. Elsewhere, the Volvo XC40 also gets a dedicated wireless phone charging space, 'teh tarik' hooks and a removable waste bin in the centre console.
Despite being Volvo's entry-level SUV, the company has no skimped on safety equipment, as the Volvo XC40 gets Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off Road protection and mitigation, Cross Traffic alert with brake support and 360° Camera.
Production of the all-new Volvo XC40 is expected to start in November at the company's plant in Ghent, Belgium.
