Auto Shanghai 2025: Leapmotor B10 makes home market appearance, to reach Malaysia in CKD form

Fresh off its domestic launch, the all-electric Leapmotor B10 is now grabbing the spotlight at Auto Shanghai 2025. First unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, the B10 slots below the C10 in Leapmotor’s growing SUV lineup and is set to make its way to Europe—and eventually Malaysia as part of Stellantis’ locally assembled offensive—as part of the brand’s broader global push.

In China, pricing for the B10 ranges from 109,800 to 139,800 yuan (roughly RM66k to RM84k), making it a potential value leader in the EV space. With local assembly confirmed for Malaysia—starting with the C10 by end-2025—the B10 is set to follow shortly after as part of Leapmotor’s aggressive ASEAN expansion strategy.

Sized for the competitive C-segment but ironic given the name, the B10 measures 4,515mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,655mm in height with a sizeable 2,735 mm wheelbase dividing the axles. Its design echoes the larger C-series models featuring a clean, closed-off front fascia with a slim light strip connecting the headlamps. Around back, a full-width LED light bar brings a sleek and modern, if increasingly common look.

In China, the B10 is offered in five variants kicking off with a base model that comes with a 177hp/175Nm electric motor drawing power from a 56.2 kWh LFP battery that delivers 510 km of range (CLTC standard)—around 440km on the WLTP cycle. A 0–100 km/h sprint takes 9.3 seconds.

Higher trims get a more potent 215hp/240Nm, shaving the 0–100 km/h time to a more respectable 6.8 seconds. Buyers can choose between the same 56.2 kWh battery or a larger 67.1 kWh LFP pack with the latter offering up to 600 km CLTC range (approximately 500km WLTP).

Charging flexibility is a key highlight of the B10. Hooked up to an AC power source (up to 11 kW), a 30–80% charge takes 4.2 hours for the smaller battery, or 5.6 hours for the larger pack. But the real game-changer is its 800V electrical system, enabling DC fast-charging from 30–80% in just 19 minutes (56.2 kWh) or 20 minutes (67.1 kWh).

Underpinning the B10 is Leapmotor’s new LEAP 3.5 platform, co-developed with Stellantis for improved ride and handling thanks to input from Maserati. Key engineering advancements include a new steering algorithm and integrated brake system that aim to deliver smoother, more energy-efficient performance. Also featured is the brand’s CTC 2.0 (Cell-to-Chassis) tech, where low-profile, floor-mounted battery cells enhance structural integrity, cabin space, and fast-charging capabilities.

Stepping inside, the B10 continues minimalistic cabin tone set by the C10 and anchored by an 8.8-inch digital cluster and a 14.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen running on Leapmotor OS 4.0 Plus, and powered by a Snapdragon SA8155 chip. Unlike the C10, the B10 comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, at least on the unit seen in Shanghai.

Depending on trim, the SUV is varying degrees of well-equipped with goodies including a 12-speaker Leapmotor sound system, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, 256-colour ambient lighting, and faux leather upholstery certified by Oeko-Tex. Boot space is a useful 420 litres, expandable to 1,415 litres with the rear seats folded.

All B10 models come standard with automatic parking, while higher-end variants feature a comprehensive ADAS suite supported by a separate Snapdragon chip (this time a SA8650) that oversees the cameras, ultrasonic sensors, millimetre-wave radar, and roof-mounted lidar—offering up to 26 active safety functions.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
