This move, announced as a precautionary measure, targets multiple popular Honda models across a range of production years. In its official statement, Honda Malaysia outlined two separate concerns linked to the vehicles’ fuel pump systems. While no accidents or injuries related to the issues have been reported locally, the company is taking proactive steps to rectify the problem to ensure customer safety. “The company believes this product recall is necessary as customer safety is Honda Malaysia’s top priority. The company will continue to take proactive measures and uphold transparency and stringent controls to ensure the safety of its customers,” the statement read. Honda Malaysia also clarified that all current models being produced and sold are not impacted by either issue. Fuel Impeller Issue Affects Majority of Units The first and most widespread issue involves the fuel pump impeller, a critical component in fuel delivery. According to Honda Malaysia, the impeller may experience swelling after extended exposure to fuel, which could lead to the vehicle either being unable to start or stalling unexpectedly while driving. A total of 84,073 units are impacted by this particular defect. The affected models and their respective production years include: Honda Jazz (2015–2020) Honda Jazz Hybrid (2018) Honda City (2014–2019) Honda City Hybrid (2018–2019) Honda Civic (2017–2018) Honda Accord (2013–2017) Honda BR-V (2017–2018) Honda HR-V (2015–2018) Honda CR-V (2018–2020) Honda Odyssey (2017–2019) Cracking High-Pressure Fuel Pumps on Newer Models The second issue involves high-pressure fuel pumps which may develop cracks due to long-term stress and usage. This defect could lead to fuel leaks or noticeable fuel odour during vehicle operation or while idling. This specific problem affects 3,417 newer Honda models, namely: Honda Civic (2023–2024) Honda CR-V (2024) Next Steps for Affected Owners Owners of affected vehicles will receive official notification letters detailing the recall and necessary actions. Honda Malaysia urges all affected customers to contact any authorised Honda dealership to schedule a free fuel pump replacement. Replacement parts will be made available in stages, and all costs will be fully covered by the company. Vehicle owners can check their recall status through the HondaTouch app, by calling the toll-free line at 1800-88-2020, or by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) on Honda Malaysia’s official website. This recall underscores Honda’s focus on customer safety and product reliability, and affected customers are encouraged to act promptly to ensure continued safe operation of their vehicles.
