Introducing The Landtrek, Peugeot's New Pick-Up Truck

While everyone is busy publicising about how Naza is supposedly wooing Suzuki to become their official distributor here in Malaysia we'd like to shine the light another one of Naza's related brands and how they have just unveiled a Pickup truck.

Called the Landtrek, this is Peugeot's version of how a modern pickup truck should be, moving away from their previous pickup efforts like the saloon (504 pickup) and hatchback (207 Hoggar) based pickup vehicles.

Most likely conceptualised through their partnership with Chinese automobile manufacturer Changan Automobile, the Landtrek is a handsome remix of the Changan Kaicheng F70 truck, and a better rebadge effort than the Mercedes Navara project.

With some of the uber-cool and modern Peugeot saloons and SUV interiors part of the rebadging efforts, we must say that it looks like it could be one of the most elegant pickup truck interiors we have seen.

The exterior also has many cues from the current Peugeot design language, and we feel that they have done an excellent job of making the truck look like it is their own and not a reworked F70.

Surprisingly, the headline engine is a 2.4-litre petrol turbocharged powertrain, rated at 210hp and 320Nm of torque. It can be mated either to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. There is also a 150hp and 350Nm powertrain available, but will only be exclusive to the manual version. All versions are available in 4x2 or 4x4.

Might it be available in Malaysia? We can but hope!

Or we might get another Peugeot Traveller situation where it was rather suddenly sold in Malaysia.
