Volkswagen ID Cross Concept previews – launch in mid-2026, EV SUV with 420km range WLTP

Volkswagen has previewed its Volkswagen ID Cross Concept at the Munich Motor Show, ahead of its plans to debut the mid-production models in 2026.

The exterior design of this model blends modern technology with a distinctive and eye-catching aesthetic. Notable features include LED matrix headlights and a light strip with the illuminated VW logo in the front, complemented by a matching strip and logo at the rear, as well as a rear diffuser.

Adding to its rugged appeal, the model features black underbody protection, a bold “urban jungle” green flying roof extending to the spoiler and resting on glossy black pillars, black roof rails, and is fitted with striking 21-inch wheels.

Inside, the cabin exudes a calm and serene atmosphere, incorporating a variety of fabrics that are both visually pleasing and touch-friendly. The use of loose yarn creates soft surfaces, while covered buttons on the seats add an elegant, tactile dimension.

The overall interior design is inspired by nature, from the soothing ambient lighting to the plant motifs on the screens, fostering a sense of tranquility within the vehicle. Adding to the naturalistic ambience are inserts within the cupholders, designed to hold plants, reminiscent of the iconic flower vase found in the Volkswagen Beetle.

Built using VW's MEB+ platform, The ID Cross packs a range of about 420 km in the European WTLP ratings system.

The concept, which is making its premiere at the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, is also on display on at stand in Munich's city center and is open to the public.
