From equivalent of RM 173k, all-new 4th-gen 2027 Nissan Elgrand launched in Japan with e-Power, e-4orce AWD and Intelligent Dynamic Suspension

Seven months after making its debut at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, the all-new fourth-generation Nissan Elgrand has now been officially launched in its home market, with the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire twins firmly in its sights.

Though toned down from the futuristic Hyper Tourer concept, the production model still bears a strong resemblance to the study, guided by Nissan’s "Timeless Japanese Futurism" design philosophy.

Up front is a large grille inspired by Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking craft, which flows into the signature lighting elements, while the lattice pattern is echoed on the full-width taillights. Nissan also says the lightweight wheels use a resin finisher to achieve intricate detailing that aluminium alone cannot.

Inside, the Elgrand adopts a lounge-inspired cabin with Kumiko-inspired door trim, a woodgrain dashboard with capacitive touch controls, and a higher seating position to improve forward visibility.

The seven-seat cabin features Zero Gravity seats throughout, with ottomans for the front passenger and second-row occupants. Smooth Stop helps deliver gentler braking, while Advanced Active Noise Control reduces both engine and road noise.

Access is made easier with power sliding doors, a low step-in height and a large assist grip, while a half-open door function helps minimise rain entering the cabin during wet weather.

Nissan also claims the Elgrand offers significantly more interior space than its predecessor, with large windows, a theatre-style seating layout and enough luggage space for seven carry-on-sized suitcases even when all seats are occupied.

Equipment highlights include a 14.3-inch integrated interface display, a Bose 22-speaker premium audio system with immersive 3D surround sound, a 64-colour ambient lighting system, twin Qi 2.0 wireless smartphone chargers and three 100V AC outlets that can power household appliances or serve as emergency backup power.

Under the bonnet is Nissan’s third-generation e-Power hybrid system, comprising a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine (codenamed ZR15DDTe), a front-mounted 5-in-1 drive unit and a rear electric motor, giving the MPV the automaker’s e-4orce all-wheel-drive system.

Power output has yet to be disclosed, though Nissan says the updated powertrain delivers improved refinement, fuel efficiency and performance. Drivers can choose between six drive modes: Eco, Standard, Sport, Comfort, Snow and Personal.

Also new is the Intelligent Dynamic Suspension system, which continuously adjusts damping force at each wheel to improve ride comfort.

On the safety front, the Elgrand comes equipped with Nissan’s ProPilot driver assistance system. Higher variants add Navi-link, Traffic Jam Hands-Off Mode and Lane Change Support for hands-free driving in traffic at speeds of up to 50 km/h, while the latter can also assist with lane changes at speeds of 60 km/h or above after the driver signals.

As for pricing, the Elgrand X e-4orce is priced at JPY 6,897,000 (~RM173k), while the Elgrand G e-4orce retails for JPY 7,579,000 (~RM190k).

Will the all-new Elgrand make its way to Malaysia? There’s no official confirmation for now, but rumours suggest it could happen sometime in 2027. It’s not too far-fetched, considering the Hyper Tourer concept made an appearance locally at KLIMS 2024.

While I wouldn’t label myself a hardcore petrolhead, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for cars and the simple joy of driving. For me, getting behind the wheel is a therapeutic escape.
