2026 Volkswagen Golf Mk8.5 1.5 eTSI R-Line goes on sale in Malaysia - RM185,990

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has officially introduced the Golf Mk8.5 1.5 eTSI R-Line to the local market, with the model now available for purchase following its preview alongside the Golf GTI Mk8.5 late last year.

Marking the return of the Golf R-Line variant in Malaysia, the 2026 Golf Mk8.5 1.5 eTSI R-Line carries a retail price of RM185,990. This price includes the Volkswagen Assurance Package, which covers five years of free scheduled maintenance, a five-year mileage warranty, and five years of roadside assistance.

Early adopters are in for a bonus, as the first 50 units are offered at a reduced price of RM179,990. Under the bonnet sits a 1.5 litre eTSI mild-hybrid turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 150PS and 250Nm of torque.

Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. The Mk8.5 R-Line rides on newly designed 17-inch Coventry alloy wheels, paired with 225/45 R17 tyres.

Visually, the facelifted Golf benefits from several exterior enhancements. These include slimmer IQ Light 3D LED matrix headlamps, an illuminated Volkswagen emblem at the front, and updated tail lamps featuring animated graphics and dynamic indicators. The R-Line package further adds sportier front and rear bumpers, a redesigned grille, side skirts, and chrome-style exhaust finishers.

Inside, the cabin sees a welcome return of physical buttons on the steering wheel, replacing the touch-sensitive controls found on the outgoing model. Dominating the dashboard is a new 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen running Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 operating system. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad are all standard equipment.

The R-Line interior theme continues with Carbon Grey trim accents, fabric seats with Artvelours inserts, a black headliner, brushed stainless steel pedals, and three-zone Air Care Climatronic climate control. Audio duties are handled by a seven-speaker sound system.

On the safety side, the Golf Mk8.5 1.5 eTSI R-Line is equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance systems. Key features include Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Travel Assist, Rear Traffic Alert with Exit Warning, Park Distance Control, Driver Attention Detection, as well as Emergency Assist, Side Assist, and Lane Assist.

For buyers looking to personalise their car, the new Golf R-Line is offered in five exterior colours, namely Oryx White, Moonstone Grey, Grenadilla Black, Kings Red, and Anemone Blue.
