When i first saw the 6 GT in pictures, i always thought " what an ugly old thing" considering it replaces the uglier 5 GT When it got announced in Malaysia, i decided to take a look at it Its definetly one of a kind Pictures dont do this car justice as it looks really good in real life ( although some angles can make the car look a bit like a whale) . However, i tend to notice people staring at this car and even saw a few of them taking photos of it. What this car offers for its price is unbelievable I am a frequent traveller, so storing bags in the 6 GT is very easy. The boot capacity is bigger than any of its rivals or even some SUV's for that matter. The interior is pretty much identical to the 5 series but its not like as if thats a bad thing ( the frameless doors and light carpet gives it a classy touch). Driver's display is very clear, the idrive system is nothing short of excellent; Lets just say there is a reason why reviewers always compare other brand's infotainment to bmw's idrive as it has set the industry benchmark. The harman kardon speakers have a good clarity and base to it compared to mercedes's Burmester but falls a bit short to volvo's bowers and wilkins. Interior has a very ergonomic design, excellent build quality and the amount of space it offers is just immaculate Especially for the rear seats which is almost that of a 7 series. You can eaisly stretch your legs out and keep away prying eyes away with the sun blind which can be activated with a touch of a button and not forgetting the panoramic sunroof which gives the cabin a more airer feeling. The ambient ligthing is very tasteful especially in contrast with the cognac interior color. ( i prefer the blue and white contrast ) What i do wish is for BMW malaysia to spec in the nappa leather instead of dakota leather for extra comfort. Performance is decent for a car this size and caliber, but i do wish there is an inline 6 available considering how BMW makes iconic inline 6's. Safety is good all around but the lack of 360 camera for a 5+ metre car and lack lane keep assist is a bit of a turn off. But otherwise all else works fine What makes this car standout from the rest is the engine refinement and the suspension. You would never feel that the engine is running out of breath and the fuel consumption is quite good at 8l/100km. The air suspension irons out the bumps effortlessly eventhough it rides on 20s runflats . It comes with an adaptive function which changes the behaviour of the suspension depending on the drive mode you select ( comfort, comfort +, sport and adaptive). I usually select the later as it automatically changes the setting judging from my driving behaviour. For instance, when i drive slow, the suspension turns to comfort mode with a magic cloud ride while on sport mode, it lowers itself for better handling/stability but its still surprisingly comfortable. Steering on the other hand is very light but precise. It feels like as i quote from Mat Watson, carwow " like a computer game". In conclusion, The 6 GT is an excellent car for its value or i might go as far to say that it is a bargain I would challenge people to get away from the clichéd reviews and people who ride the bandwagon that say it's "ugly". It is not. See one for yourself, think for yourself and experience it. Thanks! Less
