2026 Hyundai Stargazer gets Malaysian preview at KLIMS, estimated from RM99k, ADAS – 3 variants for 3-row Veloz and Xpander rival

Hyundai Motor Malaysia has expanded its local line-up with the introduction of the Hyundai Stargazer, which is now open for booking. The new 7-or-6-seater MPV is positioned squarely in the competitive B-segment people-mover market.

  • Stargazer Style (7-seater): RM99,000 - estimated
  • Stargazer Prime (7-seater): RM109,000 - estimated
  • Stargazer X (6-seater): RM121,000 - estimated

With an estimated starting price of RM99,000, the Indonesian-built (for now) model enters the fray against established rivals such as the Toyota Veloz and Mitsubishi Xpander, offering a blend of practicality, modern technology and advanced safety features. We might be looking at an official launch window somewhere in the 3rd quarter of 2026.

First previewed to Malaysian audiences earlier this year, the Stargazer arrives as Hyundai’s fourth model under its newly established Malaysian operations. The MPV is imported completely built-up (CBU) from Indonesia, where it has become one of the brand’s key products and competes in one of Southeast Asia’s largest MPV segments.

For Malaysia, Hyundai is bringing in three variants of the Stargazer, with buyers able to choose between six-seat and seven-seat cabin layouts depending on the selected specification. Interestingly, the version introduced here mirrors the range-topping Stargazer Cartenz X sold in Indonesia, giving Malaysian customers access to the model’s highest level of equipment from the outset.

Powering the Stargazer is a familiar formula shared by many of its Japanese competitors. Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre MPI four-cylinder petrol engine producing 115 PS at 6,300 rpm and 143 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. Drive is sent to the front wheels via Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), essentially a continuously variable transmission (CVT) designed to deliver smoother acceleration and improved fuel efficiency.

While outright performance is unlikely to be the Stargazer’s main selling point, Hyundai is placing significant emphasis on comfort, convenience and technology. Externally, the MPV rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, giving it a more premium stance compared to some rivals in the segment.

Inside, the cabin receives a contemporary dashboard design centred around a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The MPV also features combination fabric-and-leather upholstery, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, rear air-conditioning vents and a six-speaker audio system, all aimed at enhancing day-to-day usability for families.

Safety is another area where the Stargazer looks to gain an advantage. Standard equipment includes six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring and Hill-Start Assist. More notably, Hyundai has equipped the MPV with its SmartSense suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a feature not always common in this segment.

The package includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go functionality, allowing the vehicle to maintain a set distance from traffic ahead even in slow-moving conditions. Safe Exit Warning is also included, helping alert occupants to approaching vehicles before opening the doors.

Customers will be able to choose from four exterior colours: Titan Gray Metallic, Magnetic Silver Metallic, Creamy White Pearl and Midnight Black Pearl.

In conjunction with the order books opening here at KLIMS, which can be done for RM88, Hyundai Motor Malaysia is also offering the Stargazer with an Value Package with RM4,600 for early bird customers. The first 800 buyers of the Stargazer will be furnished with an impressive 8-year or 160,000km vehicle warranty and 8 times (or 4 years) of free servicing.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
