Home News Auto News 3 days! That’s all it took for the reborn 2026 Honda Prelude to sell out in Indonesia 3 days! That’s all it took for the reborn 2026 Honda Prelude to sell out in Indonesia Auto News Jim Kem https://www.carlist.my/authors/841/jim-kem | April 29, 2026 11:39 am Just like us, the reborn Honda Prelude hasn’t even officially gone on sale in Indonesia yet, but it’s already shaping up to be one of Honda’s hottest modern revivals. Just months after making its regional preview rounds, including a recent stopover appearance in Malaysia, the all-new coupe has completely sold out its initial allocation in Indonesia in just abut 72 hours. According to Honda Indonesia, the initial batch of 100 units was snapped up almost immediately after order books opened. Demand was so strong that an additional 150 units were released, yet even that wasn’t enough to keep up. In total, 280 orders have already been placed, comfortably exceeding supply ahead of its official launch in May. Pricing has also been confirmed there with the new Prelude retailing at IDR 974.9 million (around RM224k), placing it significantly below the hardcore Honda Civic Type R in Indonesia, which commands a much steeper IDR 1.44 billion (approx. RM332k). Different cars for different buyers, of course, but it’s clear Honda is positioning the Prelude as something more accessible and more broadly appealing, rather than an all-out track weapon. Under the skin, the Indonesian-spec Prelude mirrors global models. Naturally, that means the biggest talking point is its electrified heart as the Prelude is now a hybrid for the first time in its history, adopting much the same 2.0-litre e:HEV setup found in the Honda Civic e:HEV, pairing a naturally aspirated inline-four petrol engine with a dual-motor system (drive and generator motors). The result is a combined output of 203 PS, delivered to the front wheels via an eCVT automatic. Honda has, however, added a bit of theatre to the driving experience. A new S+ Shift function simulates stepped gear changes, mimicking the feel of a dual-clutch transmission in an attempt to inject some enthusiast appeal into what is otherwise a smooth, efficiency-focused drivetrain. And that’s really the essence of the new Prelude. Despite its coupe silhouette and nostalgic badge, this isn’t a hard-edged sports car. Much like its predecessors, it leans more towards being a stylish, everyday grand tourer, one which happens to also be very fuel efficient. Drivers can toggle between four modes -Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual - depending on mood, but outright aggression isn’t the main brief here. Fun, on the other hand, is well and truly part of its DNA. Equipment levels are strong across the board. Standard kit includes 19-inch alloy wheels paired with Brembo brake callipers given a blue finish, a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and a nine-inch infotainment system with built-in Google services. This outputs to an 8-speaker Bose sound system, while safety is covered by the full Honda Sensing ADAS suite which thankfully does include blind-spot monitoring. Begone LaneWatch! Closer to home, Malaysian buyers won’t have to wait too long either. Honda Malaysia has already confirmed a Q2 2026 launch window with previews set to take place at selected dealerships nationwide throughout May, which is almost upon us. While official pricing hasn’t been announced, don’t expect Indonesia-level figures as the Prelude is likely to sit much closer to the RM399,900 mark of the Civic Type R locally. To sweeten the deal, Honda Malaysia is also running its “Hybrid Done Right” campaign from April through June 2026, meaning buyers of any new Honda hybrid model during this period will not only enjoy additional rebates and free service packages, but also stand a chance to live with the new Prelude for a week. If Indonesia’s rapid sell-out is anything to go by, you might want to move fast when Malaysian order books open. ✕ Let's Connect on Whatsapp We protect your personal information in compliance with the PDPA I agree with Carlist.my Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
