2016 Toyota Sienta To Be Priced Between Avanza And Innova

Late last year, we reported that the Toyota Sienta is headed to Malaysia. Since then, PT Toyota Astra Motor, as Toyota’s Indonesian sales office is known, has confirmed that the Sienta will be launched at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2016 in April.

As expected, there is still no official confirmation from UMW Toyota regarding the Sienta’s entry into Malaysia, but chatter on the street suggests that the 1.5-litre seven-seater MPV will be heading here sometime between late-2016 to early-2017.

Specifications of the Sienta, be it the Indonesian market or Malaysian market variant have yet to be confirmed but we are quite certain that it will share the same Indonesia-made, 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i NR-series engine with the Indonesia-made Avanza.

According to a report by Indonesia’s Kompas.com, quoting PT Toyota Astra Motor’s Vice President Mr. Henry Tanoto, the Sienta will be slotted between the 1.5-litre Avanza and the 2.0-litre Innova, both in terms of product positioning and price.

“This is not just a Multi Purpose Vehicle, we refer to it as a Multi Activity Vehicle,” added Henry.

In Malaysia, the highest grade Avanza 1.5S Automatic is sold at RM83,210 while the cheapest Innova 2.0E Manual is sold at RM103,210 but this variant is aimed mostly at fleet operators. The cheapest automatic transmission Innova 2.0E is priced at RM107,738 - a more reasonable ceiling price for the Sienta.

However the current Innova will be replaced with an all-new model before the year ends, and we expect the all-new model to be slightly more expensive, pushing its entry price past RM110,000. The increase in price is to be expected – the all-new model is after all a far more refined car than the model it replaces.

In short, we expect the Sienta to be priced between RM85,000 to RM110,000.

The image used here is of the Japanese market Sienta, which is powered by a different 1.5-litre 1NZ-FXE petrol-electric hybrid engine that’s shared with the Prius c. There’s also an option of a 1.5-litre high-efficiency Atkinson cycle 2NR-FKE engine shared with the Japanese-market Corolla.

The Indonesian and Malaysian market Sienta are expected to look a bit different from their Japanese market counterparts.
