The BMW iX Is Equipped With LEDs That Are Manufactured In Melaka

Who would have thought that a Melaka-based company would be supplying LEDs to the world's leading luxury vehicle manufacturers?

Well, according to Melaka's Industry, Investment and Entrepreneur Development Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, some of the world's leading luxury vehicle manufacturers have chosen Melaka as the location to get vehicle lights that use light-emitting diode (LED) technology.

As reported by Berita Harian, Rauf is particularly proud of Dominant Opto Technologies Sdn Bhd, as they have recorded high demand from the world's leading luxury vehicle manufacturers to supply the product.

As a result, the company is ranked fourth in the world as a supplier of LED lighting for luxury vehicles.

"Jenama kenderaan terkemuka dunia iaitu BMW X Series antara kenderaan yang menggunakan teknologi LED yang dikeluarkan syarikat dimiliki anak jati Melaka ini."

According to Dominant Opto Technologies website, their seddLED (Smart Embedded Digital Driver LED) was utilized in the BMW iX and is an important component for vehicles that target low to zero CO₂ emissions.

The reason for this is that the seddLED cuts down the usage of cables by as much as 50%, which in turn contributes significantly to the reduction in raw material usage and weight. 

"Berdasarkan perancangan awal tahun ini, Dominant Opto Technologies akan meneruskan pelaburan besar di Melaka membabitkan nilai RM1.3 bilion dan diharap syarikat itu mampu menjadi pelopor teknologi pembuatan LED di negara ini," said Rauf who visited the Batu Berendam based company.

CEO of Dominant Opto Technologies Sdn Bhd, Tay Kheng Chiong said the company's operations were supported by 2,126 local workers and 404 foreign workers with a target of a 20% increase in business revenue in the sector each year.

The CEO is pleased that he can fly the flag high for Melaka and Malaysia, which is now ranked fourth in the world as a supplier of high-tech automotive lighting after Germany in first, followed by Japan and the United States.
