When UMW Toyota Malaysia Motor Sdn Bhd launched the Sienta MPV earlier this year, the company announced that the vehicle was designed with safety in mind, and also to achieve high ASEAN NCAP safety ratings.
And true enough, the MPV has just received a 5-star rating. Being Toyota’s fourth MPV model tested by ASEAN NCAP after Avanza, Innova and Calya (sold only in Indonesia), the seven-seater MPV performed very well in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) with 15.26 points.
Based on ASEAN NCAP 5-Star prerequisite, only variants equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) received 5-Star rating while variants that are without are rated as 4-Star AOP.
Meanwhile, in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category, the Sienta achieved 74 percent compliance which makes it earned a 4-Star rating.
In Malaysia, the Sienta is equipped with standard 3 airbags, Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for its frontal occupants and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). VSC (ESC as Toyota calls it), ISOFIX and top tether are also available as standard across all variants.
Produced and fully-imported (CBU) from Toyota's Karawang Barat manufacturing plant in Indonesia, the Sienta is available here in two variants (Sienta 1.5V and Sienta 1.5G), priced at RM92,900 and RM99,900 respectively.
