UMW Toyota Reverses MPV Price Hike

Following the Government’s reversal of its controversial duty hike on sub-1.5-litre MPVs, UMW Toyota Motor has confirmed that all vehicles affected by the ruling will immediately revert to their previous price levels.

On 31 March 2017, the Government suddenly issued Excise Duty Order 2017, which raised excise duty rate for seven-seater MPVs with engine capacities not exceeding 1,500cc from 60 to 65 percent.

Models affected by the ruling were the Honda BR-V, Perodua Alza, Proton Ertiga, Toyota Avanza, Toyota Rush, and Toyota Sienta.

Following the announcement, UMW Toyota raised prices of the Avanza, Rush, and Sienta effective 10 April. Honda, Perodua, and Proton did not announce any price revisions.

Earlier today, the Malaysian Customs reversed the duty increase with immediate effect, reverting all affected vehicles back to previous levels.

In a statement released to the media, UMWT also confirmed that all orders collected between 10 and 12 April will be based on the current 60 percent excise duty structure.

To recap, prices of the Avanza, Rush, and Sienta are as follows:

  • Avanza 1.3E MT - RM72,280
  • Avanza 1.5E AT - RM78,970
  • Avanza 1.5G AT - RM81,670
