Spied: 2018 Toyota Vios Caught In Thailand

Just weeks after the Toyota Yaris was caught on the streets of Thailand, comes a new set of spyshots depicting what could be the next-generation Toyota Vios.

At a glance, the taped-up test mule here appears to sport a reworked body of the recently-launched Vios facelift, evident from the side profile. The rear window of the spied Vios features an upward kink, which is absent from the new Vios. Apart from that, the fuel door is square, unlike the new Vios' circle-shaped fuel door. Also apparent is the new shark fin-type rear antenna, replacing the former's bee sting antenna, similar to the upcoming Yaris.

According to headlightmag forum, Toyota is looking to introduce the Vios as an Eco Car in Thailand, possibly with a name change to Yaris Sedan. Thailand's Eco Car scheme, now in phase two, requires car manufacturers to utilize a petrol engine no larger than 1,300 cc or a diesel engine no larger than 1,500 cc. These engines must comply to Euro 5 emission standards with CO2 emissions no more than 100 g/km and fuel consumption no more than 4.3 litre/100 km. This would mean that the upcoming Toyota Yaris Sedan could be powered by a 1.2-litre 3NR-FE petrol engine for the Thai market. Reports have suggested that the next-gen Vios could be underpinned by Toyota's modular TNGA platform.

The current generation Toyota Vios was recently facelifted for Thailand and China but we understand that the new model won't be sold here.
