2016 Subaru Forester CKD production begins

It is official - Fuji Heavy Industries and TC Subaru Sdn.Bhd (TCS) have started the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) production of the Subaru Forester at the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies plant (TCMA) in Segambut.

Expected to be launched in the second quarter of this year, the CKD Forester now features a slightly tweaked front fascia which includes a new grille, new bumper, and daytime running lights (DRL). Besides that, the SUV also comes with set of revised tail lights and new wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Forester CKD will feature more leather, a new instrument panel with coloured LCD screen, SD navigation system, and memory function for the driver’s powered seat.

The Forester is Subaru’s second model to be assembled locally, following the Subaru XV crossover that has been produced there since December 2012. TCS announced that it plans to assemble approximately 10,000 units of the Forester annually.

Upon launching, the CKD Forester is expected to be offered in two trim levels – 2.0i and 2.0P, powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine capable of producing 150hp and 198Nm of torque. We expect the engine to be paired with a Lineartronic CVT gearbox.

To celebrate the production start, a line-off ceremony was held at the TCMA plant, attended by TCS Executive Director Reza Mutalib, FHI Deputy President Jun Kondo, and other guests.

At the line-off ceremony, FHI Deputy President Jun Kondo said that FHI will continue to work hand in hand with Tan Chong International to further enhance Subaru sales in the ASEAN region.
