The second-generation X4, codenamed G02, places greater emphasis on bolder looks and greater individuality within the BMW X range.The sole X4 variant in Malaysia, the X4 xDrive 30i M Sport comes fitted with M Sport aerodynamic styling equipment, 20-inch M Double-spoke wheels, and M Sport Brakes. Adaptive LED headlights are also standard fare on the all-new model.Like the previous generation model, the all-new X4 is locally-assembled in Kulim, Kedah. Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder which develops 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque between 1,450 and 4,800 rpm, paired with an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. Power is channelled to all four wheels through BMW’s xDrive AWD system.The century sprint takes just 6.3 seconds, faster than your average hot hatchback, and it peaks at a top speed of 240 km/h. Combined fuel economy is rated at 7.8 litres/100kmCompared to its predecessor, the X4 has grown in length by 81 mm to 4,752 mm, an extra 37 mm in width to 1,918 mm and the wheelbase has been lengthened by 54 mm to 2,864 mm; lending it a more imposing and stretched out stance. Also, the rear axle track width has grown by 30mm to aid driving dynamics.The longer wheelbase also crucially adds an additional 27 mm in rear legroom, and the sloping has been reprofiled to offer better head and shoulder room for rear seat passengers.Note too that the boot has grown to 525 litres, which is marginally larger than its main rival, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe (at 500 litres). The boot expands to a maximum of 1,430 litres by folding down the 40:20:40 split-rear backrest.Courtesy of BMW’s trademark lightweight construction, the new X4 weighs 50 kgs lighter than its predecessor and sports a 50:50 weight distribution, like its X3 sibling.Inside, the X4 features a large free-standing 10.25-inch Navigation System Professional with Touch Sensitive Control Display. The centrally mounted screen works in tandem with a full-colour Head-Up Display and 12.3-inch 'Black Panel' instrument display. The system is also equipped with Voice Control system which has been updated to understand natural language commands. The X4 is furnished with Vernasca genuine leather upholstery, available either in black or red. The latter is exclusive to Alpine White and Carbon Black exterior colour. The cabin also features a three-zone air conditioning system with separate controls for the rear seats. Another highlight feature is the panoramic glass roof. Elsewhere, a Harman Kardon 16-Speaker surround sound system provides entertainment.Colour offerings for the BMW X4 include Alpine White, Carbon Black, Flamenco Red, and Phytonic Blue. The BMW X4 will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide from Saturday, 1st June 2019.
