Lexus Just Went Full ‘Feng Tao’ With the ‘Lit’ IS

As part of a collaboration between Lexus and video streaming service Vevo to promote UK singer Dua Lipa’s new video, “Be The One”, the Japanese car maker took things to a whole new level by covering a 2017 IS Sedan with 41,999 programmable LED lights. Yes, you read that right. This car will put your cars with a few LED strips here and there to absolute shame.

The car, dubbed the LIT IS, is so cool that it can change colors in response to human gestures and music.

According to Lexus, all 41,999 LED lights were actually placed by hand, and if placed end-to-end, they would stretch for about 800 metres in length.

The highlight about the Lit IS is that it features three different modes – ‘Attract’, ‘Music Viz’, and ‘Gesture’.

In ‘Attract’ mode, the LEDs on the light play loops of colorful graphics, while the ‘Music Viz’ mode is designed to respond to music, as the LEDs will create custom, responsive displays that perfectly sync to any song.

Last but not least, ‘Gesture’ mode allows the motion of the LED animations to be controlled by users’ hand movements with the help of a gaming console, where the car directly connects with the driver, allowing him or her to send a signal and see the car respond.

As cool as it is, Lexus has announced that the car is a one-off project and will not be available for sale even if you want to throw a million dollars at them.
