Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Launches 2020 C 200 AMG Line – RM 252k

Variety is the spice of life, and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has added a bit more diversity to their C-Class range with an AMG Line-equipped C 200 for 2020.

Of all the models that Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) sells, the C-Class remains the most popular. During the initial launch of this generation of C-Class, there was a huge variety of powertrains and options but the introduction of the facelift saw some streamlining along with the addition of new technologies and features.

Six years in, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is still willing to introduce another variant in the form of the 2020 C 200 AMG Line – well, new for this facelifted CKD generation of C-Class models. There are some updates in the form of a newer 2.0-litre engine that pushes 204 hp and 300 Nm of torque, sending drive to the rear wheels through the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic gearbox we know and love.

But really, the focus of this new variant is on the interior and exterior changes. There’s no doubt that the AMG Line packages help to add a welcome touch of sportiness and aggression, and on the inside there is ARTICO leather upholstery, galvanised steering wheel paddle shifters, and AMG sport pedals.

The outside sees a new diamond radiator grille with a chrome Mercedes star and pins dotted across the fascia. With the front apron, the AMG Line option adds a sporty air intake and chrome trim element, which mirrors the rear with a diffuser-look rear apron finished in black. 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels sit on each corner.

Also new is the Mercedes me connect, which ups the level of connectivity that Mercedes-Benz models have and is slowly being rolled out across various products in the range. The system allows owners to check on the status of their car remotely, as well as to unlock or start the engine entirely through their phone, as well as to get customer support, an emergency call system, remote vehicle diagnostics, predictive navigation, and a parked vehicle locator.

Safety here may be last, but it’s definitely a strong suit for the C-Class as the 2020 C 200 AMG Line comes with Active Brake Assist, PRE-SAFE, and Blind Spot Assist. The first and last items are the core of any good active safety system – basically preventing forward collisions and keeping you informed of objects in your blind spot – but PRE-SAFE is a highly underrated seatbelt pre-tensioner system that Mercedes-Benz has had in their cars for almost two decades, reducing the risk of injury in the event of an impending accident.

Buying one of these new models will set you back by RM 251,587.39 – on the road, without insurance, but only until the end of the tax free incentive period, which means it’s probably a good time to put your money down on one.
