The Volkswagen Group plans to launch a new family of budget cars in 2018 which will cost between 8,000 to 11,000 euros (RM33,785 to RM46,455).
This was confirmed by Volkswagen Group chairman Martin Winterkorn when speaking to German newspaper Bild am Sonntag. The cars that will be part of this budget family includes an SUV, sedan, and hatchback.
The cars will be built in China and is considered as an important step for Volkswagen Group’s future plans, particularly in the Southeast Asia region.
VWG has been considered the idea of a budget car for some time but due to difficulties in meeting internal cost standards, the project lacked a sound business case for the brand until now.
