The 2016 Formula One Petronas Malaysia GP takes place between 30th September and 2nd October 2016 as the 16th round of the Formula One (F1) race calendar.

The Sepang GP happens two weeks after the Singapore F1 GP night race - round 16 of a total 21 races this year. The 18th installment of the “world’s hottest race” promises fiery racing action, a salvo of support races and crowd-pulling international performances.

Support Races

Sepang will host the 8th and 9th rounds of the global GP3 and GP2 feeder series respectively during the F1 weekend. Malaysians Nabil Jefri in GP2 series and Akash Neil Nandy from GP3, will be vying for top spots on home turf come October.

This is also the first year the Formula One Petronas Malaysia GP and the Shell Malaysian Motorcycle GP are held within the span of a month. Other touring and GT car support races are reportedly in the pipeline.

Crowd Attractions

There will be fan based attractions such as the Drivers' Autograph Session, Malaysian School Pit Lane Walk, and Drivers Fan Forum. ‘XTrack’ will host demonstrations such as drifting, rallying, go-karting and All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) rides. The Mall Area of the circuit, meanwhile, will host a supercar display, merchandise outlets and a game zone for fans.

New for 2016, is the Formula One Tour – after the conclusion of the Singapore GP, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 car will be transported by land to the Sepang F1 Circuit. Along the tour, the team will make pit-stops in Johor, Melaka, Seremban and Kuala Lumpur where fans can get up close with the cars and team.

About Arvind

Unlike the eternal sunshine of a spotless mind, soulful naturally-aspirated soundtracks and trigger quick (self-applied) gearshifts are all that fill the darkest recesses of his mind.
