Engines powering the new 2016 Hilux hail from the GD series, Toyota’s latest and most advanced family of turbodiesel engines. Despite their reduced displacement, both the 2.4- and 2.8-litre engines both generate improved outputs over the predecessor’s 2.5- and 3.0-litre mills. According to Toyota, the 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV powerplant is good for 150hp @ 3,400rpm and 400Nm @ 1,600 – 2,000rpm; the 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV engine, meanwhile, produces 177hp @ 3,400rpm and 450Nm @ 1,600 – 2,400rpm.

Equipment levels of the 2016 Hilux are summarized below:

Despite being priced lower than the 2.4 STD 4x4, the sole 4x2 variant of the new Hilux offers better trim. It comes with the following additional equipment over the 2.4 STD:

  • Side mirror power adjustment
