2017 Porsche 718 Boxster, Cayman GTS – 2.5L Boxer-4, 365hp

The Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman family receives a new GTS engine variant with maximum outputs of 365 hp from its 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine.

Improvised from the engine in the 718 S range, the new GTS engine has its intake duct and turbocharger reworked to generate an additional 15 hp over the S engine and up to 35 hp more than its naturally-aspirated six-cylinder predecessor.

Maximum torque is rated at 430 Nm and is spread across the rev range from 1,900 to 5,000 rpm.

Standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, Porsche’s 7-speed PDK dual clutch transmission available as an option. When fitted with the latter, both the 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Cayman GTS is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Top speed is 290 km/h for both vehicles.

Besides higher outputs, the GTS models come standard with a host of features that are otherwise cost options in the regular 718 and 718 S models – Sport Chrono Package, torque vectoring with mechanical rear diff lock, and PASM adaptive dampers which lower the body by 10 mm.

Regular track day kakis can make use of the Porsche Track Precision App to record, display, and analyse driving data on their smartphone to dissect their laps.

Visual differentiation for GTS grade include the new Sport Design front apron, tinted bi-xenon headlamps, tinted tail lights, black logos, black rear apron, and centrally-mounted exhaust pipe. Alloy wheels measure 20 inches and finished in satin black.

Inside, the GTS models are finished with a high proportion of Alcantara spread over not just the sports seats, but also on the steering wheel, centre console, and armrests.
