2017 Turns Out To Be A Good Year For Volkswagen

While 2017 was a year to forget for many, it turned out to be a memorable one for Volkswagen as the company just announced that it has produced more than six million vehicles in 2017, setting a new record despite all the drama caused by the Dieselgate scandal.

The company said that the achievement was driven by the long-standing best-sellers – the Jetta, Golf, Santana, Passat and also the Polo.

In addition, growing demand for the Tiguan and recently launched products such as the new Polo, Arteon , T-Roc, and also overseas model like the Chinese Santana have contributed to the production record.

With production taking place at more than 50 plants in 14 countries at the moment, Volkswagen has produced more than 150 million vehicles ever since the original Beetle rolled out back in 1945.

Having introduced more than 10 new models globally in 2017 alone, Volkswagen says that its entire product range will be renewed and expanded in core segments such as SUVs and e-mobility over the next few years.  

By 2020, the brand will offer 19 SUV models throughout the world and will increase the share of SUVs in the overall model range to 40 percent.

And then, in the second phase, from 2020 onwards, the brand will build up a range of full-electric vehicles which comprises the I.D., I.D. Crozz and I.D. Buzz.

With more than 60 products in its portfolio at the moment, Volkswagen aims to have one million electric Volkswagens on the road by the year 2025.
