A Sneak Preview Of The 2018 BMW 8 Series

We’ve waited long enough for this. Ever since the last BMW 8 Series went out of production shortly before the turn of the century, BMW has never had a direct replacement for the model, leaving the lower range 6 Series as its sole grand touring model.

Rumours of BMW developing an all-new 8 Series have been gaining followers lately and during today’s Annual General Meeting of the BMW Group, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG Harald Krüger has finally confirmed that an all-new BMW 8 Series is coming next year.

A design concept version of the car will be presented at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on 26 May 2017, but past history suggests BMW’s so-called design studies are often close enough to be passed off as a production car.

Apart from this sole picture of the upcoming super grand tourer’s silhouette, not much else is revealed although we suspect that the car will be based on the 7 Series, in the same way the 6 Series is based on the 5 Series.

The BMW 8 Series will most probably be aimed at the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.
