BMW 3 Series Plug-In Hybrid 330e Coming In 2016, Promises 2.1l/100km, 252hp

In conjunction with the debut of their new 3 Series faceliftBMW has taken the opportunity to tease that it will be unveiling a new plug-in hybrid version of the car sometime next year.

While the likes of its arch-rival, Mercedes-Benz, seemingly pull away with already having two plug-in hybrids on the road – S 500e, C 350e – BMW are clearly on track to reveal their PHEV 3er in 2016.

Addressing the global unveiling of the new 3 Series, Dr Ian Robertson of the BMW Group mentioned, “A further milestone will be the introduction of the BMW 330e next year. The new 3 Series plug-in hybrid will raise the bar in its segment.”

Power will come from a 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower turbo engine which makes 184hp, and the addition of an 80kW electric motor.

Other details shared included that the 330e Plug-In Hybrid will be able to sprint to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds and have a top speed of 225km/h. One pure electric power, the 330e will be able to drive up to a distance of 35km, completely emissions-free.
